Maison L’Étincelle Lachenaie, Alzheimer Care Home in Terrebonne
Maison L’Étincelle is a home located in the Lachenaie sector of Terrebonne, in the Lanaudière region. It welcomes people living with Alzheimer’s disease or other neurocognitive disorders. Its Alzheimer care home concept comes from the Netherlands. The home offers 144 places across three smaller households: 96 public places in an intermediate resource (RI) and 48 private places. This human-scale model recreates the feel of a real home rather than an institution.
Each resident has a furnished private room of about 300 sq. ft., with a bathroom with shower, a balcony and air conditioning. The home serves three meals and two snacks a day and also has a bistro. Staff follow the training program developed by researcher Philippe Voyer and work with a ratio of one employee for every four residents. Care includes help with personal hygiene, medication management and palliative care. A floor secured with coded doors, an Alzheimer prosthetic unit and 24/7 security keep residents safe. Services are offered in English and French.
Daily life is built around adapted activities: music therapy, pet therapy, yoga, mini golf and a vegetable garden. A CLSC service point, a pharmacy and a hair salon are on site. The home is in the Lachenaie sector, near Pierre-Le Gardeur Hospital, the referral hospital of the CISSS de Lanaudière for the southern part of the region. The Rivière des Mille Îles, which runs along Terrebonne, is also nearby. Maison L’Étincelle in Lachenaie is separate from Maison L’Étincelle in Verdun and Résidence l’Étincelle in Sainte-Thérèse.

Après plus de 6 mois, je suis déçue de cet endroit. Le roulement incessant du personnel rend difficile l'adaptation pour les résidents et leurs familles, avec un manque flagrant de communication entre les quarts de travail. La propreté est également un problème, et malgré nos efforts pour établir des liens stables, les employés disparaissent sans explication, perturbant les résidents et leurs familles. Ce cycle de réadaptation est épuisant pour tous, avec des conséquences pour les résidents qui perdent leurs repères du jour au lendemain.
Questions and answers
La résidence dans la section privée est vraiment très bien. Le personnel en général est très gentil, respectueux et à l'écoute des besoins des résidents. L'énergie est positive , ce qui rend le quotidien plus agréable à vivre. Il y a beaucoup d'activités à chaque jour , ce qui permet à plusieurs de briser l'isolement, et de s'amuser (Danse, chant, spectacle, exercice, bricolage, lecture, jardinage, zoothérapie, etc. )
