Free shingles vaccine for people aged 75 and over
The Quebec government announces free shingles vaccine for people aged 75 and over starting May 1. This measure aims to reduce the high incidence of the disease, with around 27,000 cases, 600 hospitalizations and 10 deaths per year. Shingles, caused by reactivation of the chickenpox virus, can cause serious complications. By making the vaccine more widely available, the government hopes to improve the quality of life of seniors while reducing pressure on the health system. This initiative reflects a commitment to preventing infectious diseases and promoting well-being among older adults.
