The PAX Habitat Residence is a new residence since February 2023, located on the grounds of the Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix Abbey, along the banks of the L'Assomption River. It welcomes seniors aged 65 and over, who live in the Lanaudière area.
Located in Joliette, this residence offers 70 independent senior living units (studios, 1-bedroom, and 2-bedroom) and 32 units with healthcare and assistance.
Main features of PAX Habitat:
➡ Continuum of home services and care to avoid multiple moves for seniors
➡ Designed and affordable for a senior population with low to modest incomes: 25 units are offered to people eligible for the Rent Supplement Program (PSL) so that the cost of rent is limited to 25% of the tenant's income
➡ A multigenerational project based on citizen participation and mutual aid: A daycare center within the complex welcoming 70 children
➡ Coexistence of religious and lay people
➡ A long-secluded place that opens up to the community: Park, garden, and monastery, which will be transformed into a future cultural, educational, spiritual, and community space
➡ Focused on sustainable development and an ecological approach: LEED Silver Certified

PAX Habitat is located on the site of Notre-Dame de la Paix Abbey in Joliette and arises from the need of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Hearts of Jesus and Mary (SS.CC.J.M.) and the Benedictine Nuns to relocate together, a common dream of a major legacy for the community in which they have operated for more than a century.
