It is now official, a three-year extension has been granted to existing private seniors' residences (known as RPAs in Quebec) to comply with safety regulations. The official deadline is now extended to December 2 2027.
This announcement comes with essential financial support. Indeed, an additional 68 million dollars will be added to the initial 70 million dollar subsidy to support the installation of sprinklers in seniors' residences across Quebec. The RQRA was present alongside government representatives during the announcement of this bonification of the sprinkler installation program which brings major changes to the financial aid originally implemented in December 2015 for existing private seniors' residences.
This additional funding covers a much higher percentage than the original formula for all types of residences based on their number of units, and access to the program has been simplified to speed up the completion of the work. The percentage of installation costs reimbursed by the government
The revised funding rates are tailored to the size of each establishment:
Residences of 30 units or less will see their projects 100 % funded
RPAs with 31 to 99 units will receive 80 % funding
Large facilities with 100 units or more will receive 60 % funding
