Which residences for seniors are affected by COVID-19 in Quebec?
The Government of Quebec has a list of cases of COVID-19 in private residences for seniors (RPA), as well as another on cases in CHSLDs. The official site of the Government of Quebec presents these two lists.
How does the MSSS record this data?
The ministry recorded COVID-19 cases by living environment based on the place of residence of people affected by the disease, regardless of whether the contraction occurred at the residence or in the hospital.
Thus, the situation where a resident is hospitalized for a treatment of a few days and contracts COVID-19 there in the hospital without even returning to his living environment will lead to the identification of the residence on the list of affected living environments, although the disease is not necessarily present at the residence.
Also, the list of living environments presented in this table only considers those with active cases of COVID-19 and / or having reported deaths within the last 24 hours.
Overall portrait of COVID-19 in seniors' residences
To better understand the list provided by the MSSS, residences that present cases of COVID-19 have been classified by the government into 3 categories: red (more than 25% of the clientele has received a positive diagnosis of coronavirus), orange ( outbreaks affecting 15% to 25% of customers) and yellow (less than 15%).
List of the MSSS on affected RPAs and CHSLDs
In order to properly interpret the list presented by the Minister of Health and Social Services, here are some warnings:
- Although some private seniors' residences are on this list, there may not be any cases of COVID in the residence.
- The ministry records cases of COVID-19 by living environment based on the place of residence of people affected by the disease, regardless of whether the contraction occurred at the residence or in the hospital.
- Thus, the situation where an elder in residence who goes to the hospital for treatment and who contracts COVID-19 in the hospital without even returning to the residence will result in the identification of the residence on the list of living environments affected, although the disease is not present in the residence.
- The list of living environments presented in this table only considers those with active cases of COVID-19 and / or having reported deaths within the last 24 hours.
- The installations for which the number of beds is unknown or whose association with a living environment is impossible are not presented in this table. Results may therefore be underestimated.
