As of this Saturday, it will no longer be mandatory to wear a mask in private seniors' residences in Quebec, as will be the case for most closed or partially covered places.
People living in a private seniors' residence, as well as their caregivers and visitors, will no longer be required to wear the mask indoors, for example in the elevators, at the recreation room, at the reception, as well as than for all the other common areas of the establishment.
Remember that since July 18, 2020, wearing a mask or face covering is mandatory in all closed public places in Quebec. With the gradual decline in outbreaks, hospitalizations and vaccination coverage deemed adequate, this will soon be a thing of the past. As of May 14, the obligation to wear a mask will be lifted, but will remain strongly recommended for certain groups of people, in particular seniors and other vulnerable people.
Note that wearing a mask will remain mandatory in health establishments, such as CHSLDs, hospitals and medical clinics, until further notice. The Ministry of Health and Social Services would like to specify that people who have had COVID-19 must wear a mask during any social interaction following their isolation, i.e. at least five days following their isolation at home. Citizens living with someone before COVID-19 must also wear it for 10 days.
