Located at 305 Rue des Franciscains in Quebec City’s Montcalm neighbourhood, Résidence des Franciscains is a private seniors’ residence (RPA) dedicated entirely to semi-independent seniors living with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia or other cognitive impairments. Certified by the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux and accredited by Accreditation Canada, this human-scale residence has 40 private rooms. It also offers short-term stays for the same clientele, which can give family caregivers a period of respite.
All staff are trained to meet the specific needs of people living with cognitive loss. The approach is adapted to each resident’s profile, and ongoing stimulation helps them stay independent as long as possible. A care attendant is present 24/7, the floor is secured with a coded door, and the residence provides help with personal hygiene and medication management. Three meals and two snacks are served daily, along with adapted activities such as sensory stimulation, choir, gardening and pet therapy.
Montcalm is one of Quebec City’s most pleasant neighbourhoods, bordered by the Plains of Abraham and enlivened by Avenue Cartier. Families enjoy a peaceful, easy-to-reach setting for their visits. On site, residents have a garden, a terrace and a vegetable patch.
